AJ Longtape Extensions: How they work.

I'll never forget this: A client was sitting in my chair, we were talking about extensions, and she said, "I'd love to have fuller hair, but I don't want to spend hours in the salon every 6 weeks." At that moment, I knew: there had to be a better way.
That was the beginning of AJ Extensions. Today, years later, women all over Germany are applying our Invisible Longtape Extensions themselves – in under 30 minutes, without a hairdresser, without heat, without tools. And the result looks just as natural as a professional salon application.
In this post, I'll explain exactly how it works.
What distinguishes AJ Longtapes from normal tape extensions
Traditional tape extensions consist of many short tape strips – usually only 4 cm wide. You need dozens of them, they have to be placed exactly, and often you need a hairdresser to do it for you.
AJ Longtapes work differently: Each extension has a single, 80 cm long, ultra-flat tape strip. You place it under a section of hair, press it on – and you're done. No heat bonding, no clips, no sandwich technique. The long strip distributes the weight evenly and lies so flat on the head that neither you nor anyone else feels or sees it.
That's why they're called "Longtapes". And that's why anyone can really apply them themselves.
Step by step: How to apply AJ Longtapes
Step 1 – Prepare hair. Wash your hair with a silicone-free shampoo. No conditioner at the roots – silicones and oils reduce the adhesion of the tape. Dry your hair completely. Really completely – even a little residual moisture will affect the hold.
Step 2 – Sectioning. Section your hair into horizontal parts. Start at the back of the head, approximately 2 cm above the nape. Clip the upper hair away upwards, so you have a clean, thin section of hair.
Step 3 – Expose tape. Peel off the protective film from the tape strip. Now the adhesive strip is ready for use. Do not touch the adhesive surface with your fingers – skin oil reduces adhesion.
Step 4 – Attach. Place the tape strip directly under the thin section of hair, as close to the roots as possible – but not directly on the scalp. Press the strip gently but firmly. About 5 seconds are enough.
Step 5 – Cover with top hair. Let the next section of hair fall over the tape strip. The extension immediately disappears under your own hair. Repeat the process layer by layer until you are satisfied with the volume and length.
That's it. Really. The first time, you might need 30 minutes and a little patience. From the second time on, it takes 15-20 minutes.
Re-application: What happens after 6–8 weeks
Your own hair grows – about 1 to 1.5 cm per month. After 6–8 weeks, the tape strips will have grown away from the roots somewhat. You might not necessarily see this, but the hold can decrease. Time for re-application.
Re-application is just as easy as the first application: You remove the tape strip with a special extension remover (or an oil), remove the adhesive residue, apply new tape, and re-apply the extension closer to the roots. New tape strips are available as accessories.
The extension itself remains the same – with good care, for up to 2 years. You only change the tape, not the hair.

Which color and length should I choose?
Our Longtapes are currently available in 7 colors: Blonde, Light Brown, Brown, Dark Brown, Black/Brown, Red/Brown and Brown/Blonde. Also in 4 lengths: 35 cm (volume), 45 cm (natural extension), 60 cm (full length) and 70 cm (dream hair).
My tip: If in doubt, choose a shade darker rather than lighter – you can always adjust lighter tips with a glossing, but extensions that are too light on dark hair will immediately stand out.
